How Marbella’s coastline is set up

Top 10 Beaches in Marbella in 2026: From Family-Friendly to Glamorous

27 kilometers of coastline, 20+ beaches, 10 blue flags. A complete guide to choosing the right beach based on what you’re looking for.

Marbella stretches along the sea for 27 kilometers. It’s not one beach and not one atmosphere. It’s a whole collection of micro-worlds: from quiet dunes with protected nature in the east to glamorous bustle at Puerto Banús in the west.

To choose the right beach, you need to understand three things: where you’re staying, what you want to get, and when you’ll arrive. A morning beach in Cabopino and an evening beach on the Golden Mile are different planets, even though they’re only 20 minutes apart by car.

This guide covers 10 main beaches in Marbella and the surrounding area. All of them have a blue flag or are included in residents’ short list of favorite beaches.

Blue flags for 2026

A blue flag is an international certification of beach quality: clean water, safety, accessibility, and environmental management. In 2026, Marbella received 10 blue flags, two fewer than last year. But a new one appeared: Los Monteros.

Full list of Marbella beaches with a blue flag for 2026: La Fontanilla, El Faro, Venus Bajadilla, Nagüeles, El Cable, Casablanca, Artola Cabopino, Puerto Banús Levante, San Pedro de Alcántara (Guadalmina), Los Monteros.

Main beaches in Marbella

Below, we break down ten beaches worth paying attention to in 2026. We move from east to west.

Cabopino

Cabopino is the main beach in the east of Marbella and one of the most scenic beaches along the entire south coast of Spain. It is located 15 kilometers from the city center, near the marina of the same name.

The main feature is nature. The beach borders the Artola Dune Natural Monument, where the only moving sand dunes on this coast have been preserved. Wooden walkways wind between the dunes without disturbing the ecosystem. Above the beach rises Torre de los Ladrones, the highest watchtower on the coast, built in 1497.

The water is calm, the sand is fine, and the color is golden. Ideal for families with children, for swimming long distances, and for a quiet beach day without any glamorous fuss.

What’s important to know. Parking is free, but limited: arrive before 10:00 a.m. in July and August. There are several chiringuitos with good fish. On the west side of Cabopino, there is an official nudist area in the Artola dunes area. Stay on the east side closer to the marina if you’re coming with children.

Las Chapas / Elviria

A long sandy beach to the east of Marbella’s center, between Cabopino and Los Monteros. One of the calmest in the high season.

The atmosphere is quiet, family-oriented, and unhurried. Several traditional chiringuitos serve espeto de sardinas cooked on coals. Fewer tourists, more residents.

Ideal for those who live in East Marbella or rent a villa in this area. Parking is sufficient, and access is convenient.

Los Monteros

The main new addition for 2026. This beach is only 450 meters long. For the first time, it received a blue flag and immediately made it into the shortlist of the most interesting places along the coast.

The atmosphere is exclusively quiet. The beach is short, there is no mass tourism, and it has the status of Marbella’s most private beach. Many villas in the Los Monteros area have direct access to this stretch.

Also here is one of the most discussed beach club projects of the season, La Cabane Restaurante & Beach Club, developed by Dolce & Gabbana. This is a rare case where a luxury beach club sits next to a quiet residential beach without losing the atmosphere.

Playa del Cable (Bounty Beach)

500 meters long and 50 meters wide. Located near Puerto La Bajadilla, between Marbella’s center and Los Monteros.

The atmosphere is lively, but not glamorous. Fine sand, clean water. Several good chiringuitos, water sports, and relatively accessible parking.

Ideal for one day in Marbella without booking tables and dealing with complicated logistics.

Venus / La Bajadilla

Located right by the center of Marbella, near La Fontanilla. The main advantage is the breakwaters, which make the water as calm as possible.

This is the best choice for families with small children and for those who don’t like strong currents. The beach is popular with locals because there are playgrounds, loungers are available, water pedal boats, and parasols.

Playa de la Fontanilla

Marbella’s central beach, near the old town. Blue flag for 2026.

The atmosphere is a balance between tourist and local. A long promenade, access from the Paseo Marítimo walking area, restaurants and chiringuitos every 50 meters, and an active social life.

A good choice for a day to get to know Marbella’s center: beach, lunch at a chiringuito, and a walk through the old town in 15 minutes.

El Faro / Venus

A small, cozy beach next to the lighthouse in the very center of Marbella. The water is exceptionally shallow and calm.

The main audience category is families with babies from 1 to 5 years old. Many residents consider El Faro the best beach for children under school age within a 30-kilometer radius.

Blue flag for 2026. Walkable from the old town.

Casablanca

A small beach between Marbella’s center and the Golden Mile. Blue flag for 2026.

The atmosphere is calm, without crowds, but with good infrastructure. Several restaurants on the sand, and parking is more accessible than at central areas.

A good choice if you want to be “close to the center, but not in the center.”

Playa de Nagüeles

The heart of the Golden Mile. Located between Marbella Club and Puente Romano, two of the most legendary hotels on the Costa del Sol.

1,600 meters of perfectly maintained golden sand, with views of Sierra Blanca on one side and clear blue sea on the other. Designer loungers, champagne, and walks along Marbella Club’s private pier. Right here, some of Marbella’s best beach restaurants operate: La Milla and the Puente Romano chiringuitos.

A luxury atmosphere, but not pompous. People come here who live nearby or stay at one of the Golden Mile hotels. A glamorous crowd, but without parties: for parties, there’s Puerto Banús.

Minimum budget for the day: €30 to €40 per person for a lounger and an umbrella, not including the restaurant. Parking is limited: it’s better to walk from the hotel or arrive by taxi. Blue flag for 2026.

Puerto Banús Levante

Between the Puerto Banús marina and the mouth of the Río Verde river. Blue flag for 2026.

The most social atmosphere in all of Marbella. The most active beach clubs operate here: Ocean Club, Buddha Beach. This is also one of the main networking spots for summer Marbella.

Ideal for those coming to “party” in Marbella. Not ideal for those coming for quiet. Parking is paid and difficult. It’s better to arrive by taxi or Bolt.

San Pedro de Alcántara (Guadalmina)

The western edge of Marbella, transitioning into Estepona. Blue flag for 2026.

A family-friendly, calm atmosphere. A long beach, few tourists, and an authentic vibe of a Spanish resort town. Several good chiringuitos and local restaurants along the promenade.

The best choice for those who live in San Pedro or Nueva Andalucía and don’t want to go to the center.

Family beaches vs glamorous beaches

If we simplify, Marbella’s coastline can be divided into two categories.

Family beaches

El Faro, Venus, Las Chapas, Cabopino (east side), San Pedro de Alcántara. Here you get calm water, affordable prices, little showiness, and convenient parking. The atmosphere is geared toward everyday relaxation.

Glamorous beaches

Nagüeles, Puerto Banús Levante, Los Monteros (a new format with La Cabane). Here you’ll find designer loungers, beach clubs, a world-class restaurant scene, and a higher social factor. The atmosphere is about “being seen and seeing others.”

Chiringuito culture

Chiringuitos are beach restaurants in the Andalusian style. Right on the sand, with an open fire where espeto de sardinas (sardines skewered on sticks) are cooked. This isn’t just food. It’s part of Marbella’s cultural code.

The best chiringuitos along the coast.

El Chiringuito de la Pesca (Cabopino). A family business since 1981. The best espeto in Marbella.

La Milla (Nagüeles). In the Michelin Guide 2026. A fine dining beach restaurant.

El Ancla (San Pedro). An authentic chiringuito loved by locals. Best fish, minimal showiness.

Trocadero Arena (El Saladillo). Sunset views, a serious wine list, and a Mediterranean menu.

Chiringuito budget: €25 to €50 per person for lunch, €60 to €120 for dinner in premium places.

Practical tips for a beach day in Marbella

A few short tips from people who have lived here for a long time.

Best time for swimming. In August, the peak water temperature is 23 to 24°C. In October, it’s still 20 to 21°C with empty beaches. May has cooler water, better for walking.

Parking. Marbella’s center and Puerto Banús are difficult. Travel 10 to 15 minutes east (Cabopino, Las Chapas, Los Monteros), and parking is free.

Loungers. At Nagüeles and Puerto Banús, they are reserved a day in advance during the high season. At Cabopino and Las Chapas, it’s usually enough to just walk up and ask.

Chiringuito tarifas. Have lunch before 14:00 in the high season. After that, the best tables are taken, and the wait time becomes unpredictable.

Best hours for the beach without crowds. 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning, or 17:00 to 20:00 in the evening. The daytime break from 14:00 to 16:00 is the Spanish siesta. During that time, it’s also freer.

Season. High: June to August. Ideal for swimming. Shoulder: April to May, September to October. Best balance of weather and crowds. Low: November to March. The sea is cold, but the beaches are empty and beautiful for walking.

Main takeaway

Marbella’s coastline is not one beach and not one format. It’s a system where everyone can find their own atmosphere: family quiet at Cabopino, glamorous sparkle at Nagüeles, a calm private feel at Los Monteros, and Fontanilla’s central accessibility.

The best way to understand Marbella through its beaches is to try at least three different styles in one trip. A morning at Cabopino with espeto and quiet, lunch at La Milla in Nagüeles, and sunset with a cocktail at Trocadero Arena. And you’ll see why 27 kilometers of coastline are diverse enough for a whole lifetime.
